The Beginning

Hello world!

I’m finally doing this. #scared

Like Jonah, I have been running away from God’s calling, my own Ninevah, so to speak. Believing the lies that I cannot write, no one will read this. Full stop: I can write and have so much to say.

The idea for this endeavor appeared in my mind one day early into the first year of learning to live with Lyme disease.

A holistic practitioner introduced me to the healing powers of essential oils early into my diagnosis. With thyme being one really potent against Lyme, I know the Lord placed the rhyme for “no thyme for Lyme” on my heart. At the time, I was too sick to get this going. When I finally had a brief respite, I was eager, yet ran into road blocks getting the blog website created.

It was a “pencils down” kinda moment. The idea was shelved. The domain I had purchased then was released. Still the idea remained on my heart for several more years.

Then about two years ago, a major shift occurred. I felt like I started “again” with Lyme, tackling it head on. This time (thyme?!), I started reading books that my doctor was reading and incorporating into her treatment methods. (Now without law school or the bar exam, and most critically, diminishing brain fog, I could finally focus). I couldn’t stop reading.

This “reset” centered on food and lifestyle. “Toxic” is such a mainstream phenomenon now, however, in the context of food, beauty products and what we expose ourselves to daily makes a difference to someone battling a chronic illness.

When a body is already so overburdened as it is with fighting Lyme, minimizing any extra challenges is key. Slowly, I made big changes, and it’s important to note that it is still a fluid and dynamic process. What worked yesterday may no longer be a fit for today.

Overall, it has made a difference in how I feel generally, though I still have the sneaky curveballs and knuckleballs that Lyme tosses my way (latest mountain to climb is MAC…more on that to follow).

If you don’t know about the Proverbs 31 First 5 app for daily Bible studies, it has become a mainstay in my life since learning about it in a Bible study in Washington, D.C. Recently, it had a study on the book of Jonah, which really spoke to me, prodding me to bring that pencil back up.

Then the Lord just had these dominoes follow behind…having lunch with my dear friend of over 20 years from Texas encouraging me to get this going in July….seeing The Norton Field Guide to Writing on the free shelf at my local buy-back bookstore….and then You are the Girl for the Job in my book suggestion feed on Thriftbooks and purchasing it…all of these pointing me in the direction of DOING THIS.

Anyone who knows me, I am not tech-savvy. I am the last to get any new technology. I tried and failed for SO LONG to find someone to just build my website. It never came. A few people kept telling me, “just do Wix. It is so easy.”

Instead of “I can do hard things” — it should be only through Christ, I can do hard things….where I am weak, He is strong. That’s at least what I have told myself building this website through Wix.

So here we are! We are doing this. Or I am, and you are following along. I am so glad you are here or else I feel like these words will just be lost in the outer space of the Internet…just more chatter and more noise.

Now that it’s finally thyme (always aligning with God’s timing) to talk about Lyme and all it’s challenges….and blessings (yes, they are there, even if I have to look with a magnifying glass somedays). I hope you’ll read along as I continue to climb up these switchback trails and traverse valleys in the mountain range of hope and healing…my own Appalachian Trail.
